Wait, Where Do We Get Local Foods?
Next year, the obvious answer will be Second Street

Because we’re not just talking about local foods, we’re talking about Local Foods.

We told you about this company back in June – although that seems like ages ago, now, doesn’t it? – when they popped up on Burnet Road with their plethora of locally sourced options, their tempting array of salads and sandwiches and all manner of market-fresh sides.
(We mean, these guys partner with the likes of Vital Farms Eggs, Joe's Microgreens, and Pure Luck Dairy, among others. When we say "market-fresh," we mean market-fresh.)
And, well, Local Foods is still at that location (5350 Burnet) and continues to knock those culinary homeruns outta the grab-and-go ballpark. And they’ll remain at that address – until co-owners Benjy Levit, Martin Berson, and Dylan Murray open their new location on Second Street in Austin’s bustling Downtown district.
When the grand opening happens – update: they’re looking at February of 2022 – all that foodie goodness (along with a new curation of wine and beer, and a coffee, matcha, and chilled beverage program) will be offered in a Michael Hsu-designed space.
Now, if you pay any attention at all to architecture or design in this town, you’ve already recognized the man’s name. If not, we’ll just mention that Hsu is the architectural design force behind Uchi, Uchiko, La Condesa, and Sway. He’s the man who designed Épicerie, and Olivia, and Lucy’s Fried Chicken. Hsu is, c’mon, he’s why P. Terry’s looks the way it does.
Yeah, see? And, as we recall from our initial and follow-up visits to the Local Foods on Burnet, the noms they’ll be offering will be – as they are now – worthy of that remarkable style. So we’re sharpening our forks and we’re giving you a heads-up.
VEGAN BONUS: The $12 Garden Sammie (with Brussels sprouts, avocado spread, hummus, pickled red onions, tomato, curried cauliflower, and sprouts stuffed into ciabatta) is an excellent deal for lunch or dinner. (But, sure, your carnivore pals might prefer the Crunchy Chicken sammich instead.)
