Central Market Announces Curbside Service at Their Original Austin Store Location

Here are six not-to-be-missed food news bites with events starting tomorrow.

Central Market announces the opening of Curbside service at their original Austin store location, beginning Fri., Jan. 25, marking the sixth location in Texas for Central Market's Curbside service. They’re celebrating with a UT-themed party and live music by the Derailers. There’s a 3% personal shopping fee added to pick-up orders, plus a pick-up fee of $4.95 or delivery fee of $9.95, although these will be waived for the first four pickups and deliveries.


On Sat., Jan. 26, Door Dash celebrates their company-wide Delivering Good campaign to support sustainability and fight hunger with a full day of free events to feed your soul. Start your morning right at 10am with a free yoga class taught by Wanderlust’s Zoe Welch, followed by breakfast tacos from Taco Ranch and a chance to donate to the Central Texas Food Bank.

Before heading home, grab a self-care swag bag from DoorDash featuring a JADE yoga mat, custom Yeti water bottle, 5-second journal, and more. That evening, show up at Clive Bar between 7-11pm with a voluntary $10 donation or some canned goods in support of the Central Texas Food Bank, and dance the night away to live music from a surprise guest while exploring their custom t-shirt print station, raffles, a VW photo booth van, free flowing drink tickets, and, naturally, more tacos.


On Jan. 27, 6-9pm, Master Sommeliers from around the country will be competing in the ballroom of the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center at an open-to-the-public event, Somms Under Fire. They'll be testing their abilities by pairing award-winning wines with cuisine from Austin restaurants like Foreign & Domestic and Salt & Time. Winners will receive prizes like a one-week internship in Burgundy, France and a $2,000 travel grant. VIP ticket holders can come early at 5pm for an an exclusive wine tasting and in-depth education program featuring wines of South Africa.


In case you missed it, Shawn Cirkiel opened the second location of Jugo on Jan. 16. To their brand new North Lamar location, he’s bringing grab-and-go fresh-pressed juices like beet, carrot, ginger, and lemon, with add-ons including everything from coconut oil and maca to collagen and hemp protein, plus smoothies, Cuvée Cold Brew, and a rotating selection of cold brew green teas on tap. There’s also chef-crafted bites like packaged to-go snacks and protein packs like avocado deviled eggs, spring rolls, salads, roasted squash and Israeli couscous, wraps, and entrées like baked Alaskan salmon, grilled rosemary chicken breast, and beef bone broth. Jugo takes a “farm to blender” approach, working with local farms and purveyors to source seasonal ingredients and composting all of its excess produce and giving it back to its providers.


On Thurs., Jan. 31 from 9pm-12am, Jack & Ginger's Irish Pub is celebrating their third anniversary with drink specials and music performed by Ryan Holley. They’ll be serving their full menu of Irish food and American classics, with favorite snacks like Reuben potato skins, topped with sauerkraut, diced brisket, and homemade 1000 Island Dressing; jumbo shrimp corn dogs with malt vinegar and mayo. There are also takes on pub classics like the Guinness-battered fish and chips, served with garlic green beans and lemon tartar sauce, and Ginger’s shepherd’s pie with braised short rib. Don’t forget: they’ve got 80+ beers on tap, and specialty cocktails like Bourbon Apple Sangria created with Maker’s 46, apple juice, lemon juice, hard cider beer, and garnished with Granny Smith apple slices.

Be More Pacific is starting 2k19 strong with a whole new lineup of specials. First up is Takaw Tuesday, a super delux happy hour inspired by the spirit of “Takaw” which means gluttonous in Tagalog, including a $3 beer special and Filipino-inspired tacos (think Taco Libre with adobo chicken, elote and cilantro, corned beef with eggs and home fries, and the Asado with pork asado, pickled cabbage and cucumber), also priced at $3 so you can truly get takaw on a budget.

If you’re somehow hungry again the next evening, come back for Wednesday Wingdays, for wings marinated and battered in homemade spicy coconut curry lime, sweet chili sauce, or Sinigang parmesan rub. And there’s $1 lumpia all day, every day at the bar, plus parties of six or more get a complimentary lumpia platter from 6pm-10pm Tuesday - Saturday. Also, on Sundays, they’ve launched a new brunch menu, featuring Spam Benedict, $2 mimosas, and $5 Be More Marys.
