Philanthropy and Craft Beer at Saturday's Fest

Ticket proceeds from Bloody Good Beer Fest benefit We Are Blood

As Oktoberfest wraps up and Halloween creeps around the corner, Craftsman is throwing a bloody good bash to benefit a bloody good cause.

The 1920s home-turned-cocktail-bar on East Cesar Chavez has invited 10 local breweries to be part of their sample lineup to benefit We Are Blood, the exclusive blood supplier of Central Texas.

All of the ticket sale proceeds will be given to the life-saving organization, which serves over 40 hospitals and medical facilities in 10 different counties. Armed with a 4oz glass, ticket holders can begin their tastings on Saturday anytime between 1-3pm, where each of the 10 breweries will be pouring – and repouring – as guests try out the different beers.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Oktoberfest celebration without a slew of savory foods to complement the beer. Austin Pig Roast will be on-site serving up plates of traditional German dishes including sausage, potato salad, and Gurkensalat (German cucumber salad).

Rob Hill, community outreach manager at We Are Blood, said they love doing events like this and were stoked when Craftsman approached them about the event last year. “It’s a great opportunity to remind folks that having a local blood supply is something that can really bind us all together, and that really, beer does the same thing,” he said.

Craftsman started the partnership in 2015 when they offered free Bloody Marys to people who donated blood and plasma to the center. And according to JJ Jackson, the marketing and events coordinator at Craftsman, it was so successful they knew they could create a bigger impact, and Bloody Good Beer Fest was born.

“We love that Craftsman gets the connection and took the initiative to throw the first event last year, and we’re looking forward to a day full of good fun, good beer, good food – all in support of a cause that can benefit us all,” Hill said.

Participating breweries include Pinthouse Pizza, Hops & Grain, Cedar Creek Brewery, Schilling Hard Cider, Deschutes Brewery, Victory Brewing Company, Southern Star Brewing, Revolver Brewing, SweetWater Brewing Co., and (512) Brewing Company.
