Hot Luck Festival Announces Snack/Music Pairings

More music, more food

This month’s Hot Luck festival, helmed by local hero Aaron Franklin, may be a what’s what of some of the best American cuisine has to offer, but it wouldn’t be a true Austin festival without music.

Rayland Baxter, Robert Ellis and Black Joe Lewis are just a few of the names that will be playing in venues across Austin on May 18-20, and today they announced that each show will be paired with chef-curated “show snacks” to fuel your fun.

To get your prepped for a weekend of food and amplified sound Franklin will serve up Thurston S’mores to accompany the Thurston Moore concert at the Mohawk on Wednesday, May 17.

Thursday’s Black Lips show at the Barracuda will team up with Portland’s Olympia Provisions for some charcuterie bites to help you shake what your mama gave you. On Friday night Otoko’s Yoshi Okai will work his magic while you rock out to Shonen Knife, the legendary all-female outfit from Osaka serving up their own style of Japanese pop-punk, again at Barracuda. Nashville’s Rayland Baxter performs that night at White Horse, where you can cool off with gelato Tillamookies from Oregon’s Tillamook.

Saturday night rounds out with Austin’s own Black Joe Lewis at Barracuda and Houston crooner Robert Ellis at White Horse. At the latter you can munch on Valentina’s Tex Mex or slurp down a Stumptown Coffee Cold Brew Float, each accompanied by more of Tillamook’s creamy goodness.

Tickets range from $12-23 per show and are available online or at the door, and as part of the Hot Luck fest will benefit the SAFE Alliance, a joint project by Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace. All shows begin at 8pm. More information can be found online at www.hotluckfest.com.
