First Look: Lick Burnet

By Serena Yeh, July 24, 2015, 12:30pm, On the Range

Here’s the weather report: Austin’s temperatures will hit the triple digits soon. Luckily, that forecast is followed by a food report: Local ice cream parlor Lick opened its second outlet in Austin Wednesday. It’s a very happy coincidence.

The new location has similar vibes to the store on South Lamar. The prominent red signage, gentle gray and light blue walls, and funky sticking-out-its-tongue-cow picture grab your attention before your focus is quickly diverted to the ice cream counter.

Like the first outlet, patrons waiting in line are able to read descriptions of the ice cream flavors (all made with fresh ingredients from local food producers) and ogle at the enticing homemade waffle cones and bowls on display behind the counter. But the wait here will be much more comfortable because of the bigger space – it is almost 400 square feet larger. That means you will barely have a chance to experience anticipatory hunger pains before being served.

Compared to the flagship store, which often had people squashed to the walls to enjoy the air conditioning, there are more seats here and much more space to move around. The spaciousness extends outside where there is also ample parking.

Lick is part of the 6555 Burnet Road shopping center by Endeavor Real Estate that will see Bufalina and Barley Swine opening later this year. Co-owner Anthony Sobotik says, “We're so excited that we will now be able to serve all of our loyal customers up north that have been making the journey south for almost four years and introduce ourselves to new friends."

The store serves the same all-natural flavors as Lick’s other outlets, which include their innovative concoctions like cilantro lime and seasonal flavors such as honeyed peaches with rosemary.
