Plans for an Austin gathering in his honor are still pending

A celebration of Dirk Miller's life will be held in his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana this Saturday, according to his family.

Describing the event as a "celebration in memory of Dirk's life," Miller's family will host a service at the Calvary Baptist Church (9333 Linwood Ave., Shreveport) at 2pm on Saturday, April 13. After the service, his family will receive guests in the new foyer area of the church.

Shreveport native Dirk Miller, 37, was known to Austin foodies as a gregarious and knowledgeable Certified Sommelier. He was also a singer-songwriter with a degree in Music Business from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. Respected for his excellent wine pairing suggestions by his legion of loyal Wink customers over the past six years, Dirk left the restaurant several months ago to create the glass2plate pop-up supper club with his business partner, chef Matt Taylor. Dirk's cheerful presence and well-informed contributions to the Austin food scene will be missed.

The Miller family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dirk Miller to The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486.
