For the month of November, otherwise clean-shaven men all across the US will grow moustaches to raise public awareness of prostate cancer, an often-hushed issue surrounding men’s health.
These hip, walking billboards, sometimes referred to as Mo Bros, promote conversation about the subject, throw parties celebrating Movember, and raise money for causes supporting men’s health. The American Cancer Society estimates that nearly a quarter million men in the US will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year alone. Movember seems a fun, quirky to way to get a conversation going about something most men would probably rather ignore.
Local bar staple, icenhauer’s (83 Rainey Street), is getting in on the month-long campaign with a signature cocktail, the Hair Raiser. Made with Belevedere vodka, the Hair Raiser is a tasty combo of muddled jalapeno and cucumber, simple syrup, and fresh lime juice served on the rocks.
A dollar from every Hair Raiser sold will be donated to The Livestrong Foundation, one of the nation’s largest cancer awareness foundations located here in Austin. Great idea. Great drink. Great cause.
