What to Expect at the Markets this Saturday

Pumpkins and watermelons at the same time, that’s what to expect! This seems like such a quintessential Texas photograph, I wonder: are there many other places where the watermelons and the pumpkins come ripe at the same time?
Another thing to expect is that it MIGHT be raining on Saturday morning. Rainy Saturday mornings are wonderful, because parking is great and there are no crowds, even when it’s just a tiny drizzle. (Of course, if it’s pouring, it’s best to wait until it lets up.)We've just learned that in anticipation of rain, Confituras and Dai Due will not be at the farmers' markets this Saturday, but instead will hold a pop-up market at the Spirited Foods Kitchen (1208 W. Fourth) from 9am-1pm. Confituras will be at the Mueller Market on Sunday morning, however.
More and more, the cool weather Autumn crops are coming in: radishes, lettuce, greens, pumpkins; at the same time, summer crops are still going strong: tomatoes, sweet peppers, eggplant, okra, melons, and cucumbers. Ottmer Family Farms will be bringing a second planting of tomatoes to market this week, and Tecolote Farm has mountains of gorgeous peppers.
