Beers, brats, and buffets give you something to oompah about

Oktoberfest celebrations are ongoing at the historic Walburg Restaurant (www.walburgrestaurant.com) where the biergarten is open from 6pm until midnight, they offer an all-you-can-eat buffet, biergarten specials, an arcade for the kids, and live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Through Nov. 5.

A weekend of festivities in and around Fredericksburg begins with the grand opening of the new Messina Hof Hill Country Resort (9996 Hwy 290 E., 830/990-4653). Purchase $50 tickets to check out the tasting room, wine garden, and Manor Haus B&B. Thursday, Oct. 20, 6-8pm.

The first Buda Beer & Polka Fest takes place in Buda City Park (204 San Antonio Rd.) with a biergarten, a food court, Halloween and polka costume contests, plus plenty of polka music and dancing. Saturday, Oct. 22, 11am-10pm.

The 43rd anniversary of the Draught House Pub & Brewery (4112 Medical Pkwy.) coincides with both Oktoberfest and Austin Beer Week, so owner Josh Wilson has a week of festivities planned for beer lovers:
Saturday, Oct. 22, 1-10pm: Celebrate with a great selection of cask, sour, barrel-aged, rare, wild, and cellared beers in a collectible sample glass. Enjoy Sugar Shack barbecue while DJ JBL spins the platters.
Sunday, Oct. 23, 3pm: Beer Olympics has brewers and the public competing in games.
Monday, Oct. 24, 5pm: Rahr & Sons Brewing will bring a rare beer to pair with cheese.
Tuesday, Oct. 25, 5pm: There's a (512) Brewing Co. brewer meet-and-greet.
Wednesday, Oct. 26, 5pm: Attend the Hops & Grain Brewing Co. first tapping and Austin Beer Guide release party.
Thursday, Oct. 27, 5pm: Jester King Brewing Co. will pair five beers with bread, cheese, and charcuterie. Only 30 tickets will be sold.
Friday, Oct. 28, 5pm: Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling meet-and-greet.
Saturday, Oct. 29, 5pm: Austin Beerworks meet-and-greet.
Sunday Oct. 30, 1pm: John Antonelli will pair five beers with five local cheeses. Only 50 tickets will be sold; visit the bar or Antonelli’s Cheese Shop in Hyde Park.

The Fredericksburg Food & Wine Fest on the Marketplatz is where this community celebrates it rich German heritage with beer, food, arts & crafts, and authentic German costumes, plus plenty of music and dancing. North by Northwest Restaurant & Brewery (10010 Capital of TX Hwy. N.) hosts one of Austin’s most popular Oktoberfest celebration with authentic German food, handcrafted beers, dog costume contests, kids' rides, artists booths, brewing demonstrations, and live music. Donations will benefit the Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas, Therapy Pet Pals, and Austin Dachshund Rescue. Saturday, Oct. 22, 11am-11pm; Sunday, Oct. 23, 11:30am-8pm.
