Raise your hand if you’ve ever tried to cut your own hair. Just a couple of months ago, I was in a bind and didn’t have the time to find a salon, schedule an appointment, make the drive and wait in the waiting room, so I took matters into my own hands.
I took a pair of clippers to my head and to say that the results were mixed would be a massive understatement. I have craved getting my hair cut again by a professional stylist but just didn’t have the time to make it out of the house. Enter SpaDash, a mobile haircut delivery service that is proving to be the quickest, most stylish and (most importantly) safest way to get a haircut.
What do I mean by “mobile haircuts?” Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like. In just a few seconds you can order a licensed hairstylist right from the SpaDash app and schedule a time for them to come and set up a full salon station right in your home or office (you can even do outdoor haircuts on your patio!). They really can make any space work, as long as it has dimensions of at least 7’x7’ and is near one standard outlet. Oh, you’ve also got to wash your hair before your appointment, but hopefully that’s something that you wake up and do most mornings! The booking process is incredibly easy:1. Download the app for Apple or Google devices. 2. Create your account where you can personalize it with your hair type, preferred language and preferred service space (inside or outside). 3. Tap the “+” icon. 4. Select the “delivery” address. 5. Select your hair/grooming services. 6. Select your stylist and the date/time of your appointment. 7. Book it!On the day of my appointment, I received a text about 30 minutes prior to my appointment informing me that my stylist Whitney was on the way to my home. There was no need for me to rush out the door to make it to my appointment. I could continue working from home and wait for her to arrive, and she did just that (wearing a mask, of course) about 15 minutes later. It took her about 5-10 minutes to set up her station in the area I had designated for her, and at that point she was ready for me to sit. As mentioned above, safety is a key factor in SpaDash’s services. Not only does each stylist working for the company wear a mask while they are in your space, but they put hair tarps down to protect your floor from debris. Plus, you’ll get to avoid the crowded waiting areas of most salons. When speaking to my stylist Whitney, she actually mentioned that she styled a lot of family’s hair because they feel safer with SpaDash as opposed to going to a brick-and-mortar salon. For all the men out there, SpaDash also doubles as a mobile barber. Not only do they offer men’s haircuts, but they also offer beard-trimming and shaping services to help you look as clean as humanly possible. It makes for a relaxing experience inside the comfort of your own home. As an overall experience, SpaDash is easy to recommend. The user interface on the app is attractive, the booking process is seamless and easy, and the appointment itself is incredibly professional. I confess that, as someone who has been working from home since March, I was grateful to finally have a professional haircut and beard-trim. Whitney was not only professional, but also conversational, which is something I’ve struggled with finding in hair care providers in the past. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the benefit to the stylists. As many of us know, Austinites are loyal to the city of Austin, and we love supporting local businesses. What SpaDash’s founders have done is made viable employment opportunities for hair care providers who may be out of a job due to the ramifications of COVID-19. SpaDash allows them to have their own business and make more money. It’s a customizable employment opportunity for them, which makes it an easy decision when choosing a hair care provider. “I can adjust my schedule any time if I need to make some extra money,” said Shanah Salinas, an independent SpaDash provider. “Also, the freedom in scheduling is the biggest plus to me,” she said, “it’s important for me to spend time with loved ones and with SpaDash I can take the time I need without feeling guilty.” I certainly don’t feel guilty using SpaDash, and you won’t either. Be sure to download the app today to start your new method of hair care.
