Audio Hype: White Lung

An underground riot is brewing in Canada spewing contagious toxic sounds toward the border. One band leading the charge is White Lung, an explosive punk rock outfit from Vancouver, BC.

Formed in 2006, the band has released two full length albums and toured relentlessly, including 10 shows in 4 days during SXSW. Their most recent release, Sorry off of Deranged records, is a ferocious compilation that bottles the "four degenerates with no morals" into 8 two-minute tracks. Imagine if you lit the Offspring's Smash on fire, stuffed it into a huge boombox and then watch it get struck by lightning, then you might match the hellacious energy that White Lung brings to your stereo speakers.

While their studio recordings get your heart racing, the true essence of White Lung is captured only during live performances. Howling Valkyrie cries, a no nonsense rhythm section and a constant barrage of different guitar tones barely describe a White Lung set. The stoicism of drummer, Anne-Marie Vassiliou, contrasts starkly with the raw, convulsive lead singer, Mish Way. These are some authentic punk rockers. Kenneth William often steals the show with his guitar wizardry and Grady Mackintosh lays down the backbone with her unflinching bass lines.

White Lung will rock the shit out of Beerland Saturday, April 6th and I'll be there, getting filthy in the front row. Get your tickets through Transmission Events for $7 and watch a kick ass White Lung music video here.
