Blackbird Singing in the Dead of Drought
Blackbird boutique is busy this summer with the natural sciences

When we last checked in with Blackbird Clothes and Curios over on North Loop, it was the new kid on the block, breaking in with the best store graphics on The Curve. Well, now it seems that while the rest of the local retail scene is scorched and drab, or droughty, as we've come to refer to it,
our favorite purveyor of gentle but smart gothic romance has been keeping very busy.
Already celebrating vetiver this month (that is the roots of vetiver grass native to India, not the band), Blackbird has gathered vetiver scents for a sort of scent festival, with a range including Vetyverio from Diptyque and Comme des Garcons' Holygrapie. And this minute, straight from Guilford, Vermont comes Laura Zindel Design with a pop-up shop of fine ceramics. Her unsentimental renderings of both flora and fauna fit right in: We love her obsession with natural science, so we may be eating fiddlehead ferns off of fiddlehead ferns in the near future.
