Austin is a great place to have kids, and there are a gillion things for them to do on a Saturday, but what about after school? The answer, naturally, is Stitch Lab's After School Sewing Club.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm, beginner and intermediate stitchers ages seven through fifteen can sign up for one or many classes to conquer new ground or learn new techniques. The students get to choose their own projects and work at an individual pace in groups of five.
Stitch Lab, founded by sewing maven and former costume designer Leslie Bonnell in 2009, hit the ground running early on by offering popular classes led by seasoned, accessible instructors in a colorful old house. Right now classes outside basic garment construction include temptations like Textile Arts & Screen Printing, Millinery, and Artistic Development (?!). The motto here is "learn. experiment. create." Another great reason to live in Austin!
