Fashion Week Picks for Saturday, July 18

By Anne Harris, July 17, 2009, 7:48pm, Chronique

In case you've been hiding in air-conditioned darkness, Fashion Week here is in full swing, leading up to the inaugural Austin Fashion Awards on Sunday night at the Long Center. So get up, get out, and stop by the Marnie Cooper sample sale at Girl Next Door (250 W. Second, 322-0501).

Cooper, whose Marnie Bugs handbags, shoes, and cuffs reflect her integrity as both a designer and a businesswoman, promises a Fall preview as well. Cooper founded her own Texas factory several years ago, in which she uses only the most supple Italian leather. After that dizzying spin we're going to need some refreshments, so we'll head on over to Wish (2322 Guadalupe, 391-9009) at 2pm for a look-see at Robin Designs' casual day wear and special occasion dresses while we somehow keep Hey Cupcake's gooey frosting clear of the frockage on display. Our next stop is Complete Clothing (106 E. Eighth, 473-8244) to see what locals Jenny Howe and Kim Jaques of Devushka have up their 1940's sleeves this week, especially since the Table Manners Crew will be on the decks and we'll be rehydrating with kegs from Live Oak Brewery. Later that night, after a well-earned nap, we'll be stopping by Cream Vintage (2532 Guadalupe, 474-8787) to ogle the models wearing Whipped Cream while A Giant Dog provides the jams. If we're still on our feet, we'll end the night with the Sparkles & Sweets event at Urban Betty (1206 W. 38th, 371-7663) where we'll try on lots of Diamonds & Guns jewelry by Action Jackson while washing down (more!) cupcakes with Tito's Vodka.
