Tonight: Miles Arceneaux and Stephen Romano at BookPeople

By Marc Savlov, October 1, 2012, 11:46am, Under the Covers

It's the first day of October and if you're like us then you've already begun your annual re-read of the late Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked this Way Comes. We'll be returning Ray our nightstand this evening in order to hit tonight's reading/signing quadruple bill at BookPeople and we advise you to do the same.

For those not already in the know, Miles Areceneaux is the nom de plume of authorial Texan trifecta Brent Douglass, John T. Davis, and James R. Dennis. Arceneaux' newest, Thin Slice of Life, is a Texas Gulf Coast mystery that will (you'll pardon the pun) rock you like a hurricane, minus the clean-up. It's a briny mix of gritty, fathoms-deep Gulf Coastal regionalism and hard boiled neo-noir.

Also on hand will be Austin-based author, screenwriter, cinema scholar, and artist Stephen Romano whose new novel Resurrection Express is hands down our favorite local read of the year (but not the millennium; for that you have to track down his "alternate history" of exploitation filmmaking, the insanely great Shock Festival).

Kudos to BookPeople for this inspired pairing of criminal minds and so-wrong-it's-right writing. Bring on the darkness!

Miles Arceneaux and Stephen Romano will be at BookPeople tonight, October 1, 7pm. More info here.
