Did the best book of 2012 already come out?

Ben Marcus' The Flame Alphabet is certainly on the tip of everyone's tongue, even as it details the killing effects of language, in a near-future where the speech of children acts like a virus on adults. I'm still inching my way through it, but loving what I've read so far. (Well, and I'm supremely rattled, too: This isn't a just-before-sleep kind of read.)

Marcus will appear Tuesday, Jan. 24, 7pm, at BookPeople, for the first in a new collaborative series by BookPeople and American Short Fiction.
