BookPeople Celebrates 40 Years

And they're celebrating it right now.

From 11:30am to 1:30pm, Austin's indispensable independent bookstore BookPeople is throwing a 40th anniversary party with magic shows, face painting, a birthday cake, commemorative T-shirts (only $5!), and special presentations on the third floor from BookPeople's book buyers.

While you're there, you can also swing by the store's new MysteryPeople section, devoted to – natch – all things mystery. You can also get in line for a wristband to tonight's event, when Condoleeza Rice reads from her new memoir Extraordinary Ordinary People at 7pm.

A note to readers: Bold and uncensored, The Austin Chronicle has been Austin’s independent news source for over 40 years, expressing the community’s political and environmental concerns and supporting its active cultural scene. Now more than ever, we need your support to continue supplying Austin with independent, free press. If real news is important to you, please consider making a donation of $5, $10 or whatever you can afford, to help keep our journalism on stands.
