Happy NaNoWriMo!

By Kimberley Jones, October 31, 2010, 7:15pm, Under the Covers

Yup, writing a novel is hard. But what if you had a community of thousands egging you on?

November is National Novel Writing Month – “thirty days and nights of literary abandon!” – the NaNoWriMo planners call it. The goal? Write a 50,000 word novel from scratch in 30 days. It sounds daunting, sure, but there’s a handy website with goals and tips and encouraging words. Need your support team closer to home? No problem. Austin has a whole host of events planned to help you wordsmith your way toward the finish line; check it out here.

And if a novel still sounds like too much to chew on, consider the Austin Chronicle Short Story Contest. You’ll have 47,500 less words to work with, but you gotta start somewhere, right?

Happy writing.
