Texas Biennial 2017: The When, the Who

The absence of the Texas Biennial in 2015 left a huge gaping hole in the Lone Star arts calendar that year, but the time off looks to have re-energized the statewide visual arts exhibition. Curator Leslie Moody Castro just made a massive road trip to studios across Texas, and the list of artists for the 2017 Biennial reveals a wealth of talent.

Castro had a staggering 1,217 applicants to choose from and somehow managed to whittle it down to 33 artists from 19 different cities. (She also managed to survive a seven-week odyssey to more than two dozen cities and towns, from El Paso to Galveston and Abilene to McAllen, but that's another story, best read on the Biennial website) The full list was announced this week by Biennial organizer Big Medium.

Come Sept. 30, you'll be able to see work by the following artists in a single space at 211 E. Alpine Rd here in in Austin:
