Texas Book Festival 2016: The Full List

TBF hosts Don DeLillo, Thomas Dolby, Emma Cline, 277 more

Readers and fans of the literary, you might want to grab a napkin before feasting on the newly announced list of authors for the 2016 Texas Book Festival. With 280 authors on board – among them Don DeLillo, Thomas Dolby, Emma Cline, Jane Alexander, and Nick Offerman – you're sure to start salivating.

As is the norm for the Lone Star State's annual literary extravaganza, taking place Nov. 5 & 6 this year, the slate of attendees covers almost every kind of book people read.

Heavyweights of fiction? Check. Besides the previously mentioned DeLillo, who will discuss his latest, Zero K, in a conversation with local screenwriter and novelist Noah Hawley (the FX series Fargo, the new book Before the Fall), the festival will include T. C. Boyle (The Terranauts), Lone Star screenwriter and novelist Bill Wittliff (The Devil's Backbone), Stephen Harrigan (A Friend of Mr. Lincoln); and Houston-based horror master Justin Cronin (The City of Mirrors).

Rising stars of fiction? Check. For starters, try Emma Cline, author of one of the summer's hottest reads, The Girls; former Austin Chronicle columnist Amy Gentry (Good as Gone); and Yaa Gyasi, whose multigenerational saga of a family in Ghana has won wide acclaim (Homegoing).

Nonfiction? Check. Austin's favorite New Yorker writer Lawrence Wright (The Terror Years: From al-Qaeda to the Islamic State) will be back; plus, there's Texas true-crime specialist Skip Hollandsworth (The Midnight Assassin: Panic, Scandal, and the Hunt for America's First Serial Killer); presidential biographer H.W. Brands (The General vs. the President); investigative journalist Jessica Luther (Unsportsmanlike Conduct: College Football and the Politics of Rape).

Titans of entertainment turned authors? Check. Along with "He Blinded Me With Science" icon Thomas Dolby (The Speed of Sound), there's actress and former chair of the National Endowment for the Arts Jane Alexander (Wild Things, Wild Places); Parks & Recreation star Nick Offerman (Good Clean Fun: Misadventures in Sawdust at the Offerman Workshop); singer Kelly Clarkson (River Rose and the Magical Lullaby); actress Maria Semple (Today Will Be Different); Orange Is the New Black's Diane Guerrero (In the Country We Love: My Family Divided).

Superstar chefs? Check. Diana Kennedy (Nothing Fancy); Padma Lakshmi (The Encyclopedia of Spices and Herbs); Marcus Samuelsson (Red Rooster Cookbook).

Wonderful YA authors? Check. Scaremeister R.L. Stine (Young Scrooge); Jon Scieszka (Frank Einstein and the Evoblaster Belt); Lois Lowry (Looking Back: A Book of Memories); Kwame Alexander (Booked); NFL player Trevor Pryce (Amphibians’ End: A Kulipari Novel).

Poets? Check. Eileen Myles (I Must Be Living Twice: New and Selected Poems 1975-2014); J. Scott Brownlee (Requiem for Used Ignition Cap).

Founder of the Texas Book Festival and former First Lady? Check! Laura Bush and daughter Jenna Bush Hager will discuss their new children's book, Our Great Big Backyard.

And that's not even taking into account the authors of crime fiction, memoirs, humor books, graphic novels, rock music biographies, film histories, art books, and so much more. (Oops, you're drooling.)

The 2016 TBF will launch, as usual, with the First Edition Literary Gala, held this year on Fri., Nov. 4, at the Four Seasons Hotel, and featuring actor-authors Ethan Hawke and Diane Guerrero; journalist/hilarious crime novelist Carl Hiaasen; and chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson as presenters, and children’s book author Jon Scieszka as emcee.

The 2016 Texas Book Festival poster features the art of Jack Unruh, the late, great Texas artist whose illustrations graced TBF author Bill Wittliff’s recent book, The Devil’s Backbone.
