Another Friday, another list of acts headed to Austin for South by Southwest. The mega-festival creeps just five weeks away now and today’s list of 126 artist additions – highlighted by Moby Grape great Peter Lewis, raging L.A. power duo Deap Vally, and neo-retro Latin rockers Chicano Batman – brings the running total to roughly 1,303.

South by Southwest arrives in exactly six weeks. Music fans from Austin to Australia remain eager for some mention of headliners, but so far the local conference has proved stingy in that department. The most prominent act on today’s rack of 174 festival additions is folk charmer Hurray for the Riff Raff.

Since last fall, South by Southwest has parceled out its 2017 music lineup via sometimes massive lists revealing hundreds of performers. From here on out, the conference will release small batches every Friday. This week’s arrives a day early so as not to compete with tomorrow’s presidential inauguration.

Now two months way, South by Southwest Music released its largest block of bands to date this morning. The new batch of 498 acts includes psychedelic stoner trio Dead Meadow, rising Minneapolis singer/rapper Lizzo, B-52’s singer Cindy Wilson, and Sad13, pop project of Speedy Ortiz frontwoman Sadie Dupuis.

Increasingly integrated music, film, and technology conference now just 115 days away, South by Southwest unloads another big batch of programming – headlined by the local granddaddy of all festivals' second 2017 Music keynote: Nile Rodgers.

Reminding us that it's never too early to think about that March behemoth that takes over Austin (whether you're a participant or not), SXSW released some tidbits on its 2017 Festival.

The countdown to South by Southwest 2017 ticks at 228 days. Next year’s buzz bands are still six to eight months away from reveal, but we doubt Donald and Melania Trump will get the same keynote invitation the Obamas received earlier this year. Nevertheless, SXSW 2017 has begun taking shape with this morning’s announcement of 11 speakers.

On March 25, Oklahoma’s Parker Millsap follows up his acclaimed debut with an even harder LP, The Very Last Day. The 23-year-old singer-songwriter tells humane stories with an unusually detailed eye, while allowing his fiddle-driven trio to soundtrack the heart of American music.
