Think No Think singer/guitarist John Dowey opens up in a new video for their track “9-5er.” Or, rather, he’s opened up. That’s him receiving intestinal splaying surgery at the hands of two demented doctors, one of them being Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers.

Bringing the total to over 1,100 acts prepping for SXSW, lineup drop seven pushes past the halfway mark of the fest’s sprawling lineup. Beloved local rock troupe White Denim airs new tracks March 11-17, and joins cosmic jazz-funk cult Golden Dawn Arkestra and Dripping Springs psych-Americana maker Israel Nash.

With South by Southwest’s Music conference just 39 days away, the fest adds another 80 acts this week. True songwriter’s songwriter Steve Earle has signed on to revisit Austin the week of March 11-17. So has Easy Life, the burgeoning UK quintet whose tasty indie pop, with hip-hop delivery, got them inked to Island Records.

Only 46 days remaining until South by Southwest’s Music week, slackers better begin scouring the lineup for their new favorite acts. May we suggest aesthetically unpredictable Aussie singer/guitarist/artiste Kirin J. Callinan or Har Mar Superstar and Sabrina Ellis’ new collabo, Heart Bones?

Proclaiming “Many sounds, one city,” Austin’s big, busy, boundless music scene comes together at the Austin Music Awards on Feb. 27 at ACL Live at the Moody Theater to celebrate winners of the Austin Music Poll. Breakout MC Abhi the Nomad, Black Pumas, now-local punk legend John Doe, and topline ringer Jakob Dylan lead the homegrown talent and tributes.

Following three supersized artist announcements, South by Southwest now shifts to smaller weekly band lists leading up to the music conference, running March 11-17. Australian Captured Tracks signee Gabriella Cohen, ATX rap breakout Quin NFN, and California indie pop group Cayucas add to the talent pool.

South by Southwest continues to stack emerging talent for its 2019 Music conference with this morning’s cull of 300 artists that’s thick with Austin buzz acts – Molly Burch, Abhi the Nomad, the Teeta – and international intrigues including Dublin song crafter Hillary Woods and progressive alt-Africa group Kokoko!

Black Midi hasn’t yet released a song. Nevertheless, following a benediction from fellow London youths Shame and a brief video clip, the British press now touts them as the best band in the UK’s capital city. As such, they epitomize South by Southwest’s second band list, which is notably light on star power, but flush with emerging European talent.
