Gay Place

It’s time to take care of our own

Starting now we need to take care of our own. Hopefully, you've seen our annual holiday Wish List, and additionally, several queer parties are playing Santa too. GirlFriend's Middle School Dance Party is asking for $3-5 for Black Lives Matter (see Sat.), while tonight's Guerrilla Queer Bar is collecting menstrual hygiene products for SafePlace, and – thanks to Theresa Snow – LGBTQ books for Inside Books Project. Queer literature, according to Snow, is the second-highest requested genre from Texas inmates next to dictionaries. "This was such a tough year for queers and POC, but also this year I came out to my family and made a hundred new queer friends," said Snow. "I thought rallying everyone for this cause would mean 100 caring gays = 100 gay books for the masses! … The holidays are a notoriously difficult time for many LGBTQ folks – 10-fold if you're locked up. I didn't want the incarcerated population to go unnoticed during what should be a festive, giving, and comforting time of year."
