Gay Place

Around the world in a gay!

ROAD TO HOME You want to see the world don't you/yeah you want to be the world don't you? Well, this week, you needn't even leave Austin to travel across the country and in one case, across the globe. What week of the year doesn't Austin play host to a host of the world's best touring acts and personalities? Well, never, but this week in particular is mighty special, especialmente para mis queeras, featuring a visit to Kiss & Fly from Judy Shepard, mother of Matthew Shepard and fierce advocate for our safety and dignity. United Court brings her here for a royalty-packed fundraiser for the Matthew Shepard Foundation. We'll also be graced by an appearance at the Texas Union of trans-activist and Stonewall survivor Miss Major, who will regale with tales from the city, the other city, and beyond. Then there's a visit to the Cactus Cafe from pixie-plus/traveling troubadour Zoë Lewis, whose frequent treks to our Lone Star State make her almost a native, cute Brit lilt notwithstanding. And tonight, if you're reading this on the day of the issue's release, be sure to check out the I'm From Driftwood (www.imfromdriftwood.com) crew reading at Oilcan's from its website of true gay stories, which should wrap up in just enough time for you to book it to Emo's to catch homegrrrls Jenn, Nina, and Phanie, aka the luscious and San Antonio-sational Girl in a Coma. (See Thursday, Sunday, and Wednesday.)

The Gay Place loves you; keep those cards and letters comin’.
