Gay Place

Turn day into nighttime and night into daytime

JUST THE DEVIL WITH LOVE TO SPARE We stood with Elvis as our witness, my straight date and I, and said our vows. So you see, I have been gay married. Sure, it may have been years ago at the Austin Music Hall at AIDS Services of Austin's Viva Las Vegas, and our vows may have been the product of drunken revelry/reverie, but just because Elvis and the Love Me Tender Wedding Chapel no longer exist doesn't make it any less real. ASA honcho Scott Dinger assures us that the chapel's demise was not related to the escalating national gay marriage fracas. "It had just run it's course," he said, along with ye ol' peanut-butter-and-banana eater. True dat. Gay folks these days want the real deal, not vows of spoof. These days, in lieu of honeymoon foreplay, the people come to lay odds. Ahem. Anyhoo, check it out this weekend, as lots of new traditions have crept into replace the old ones (like the legion of gay men with more than one – usually straight – woman on their arms and La Zona Rosa as the backdrop), and it's all still for a great cause. See Saturday's Community Listings.
