After a Fashion

By Stephen MacMillan Moser, October 5, 2007, Columns

ALLEY-CATTING We visited Vicci on Colorado last Friday for a very fun little fashion show put on by Pineapple Culture Inc. (www.pineappleculture.org) as a benefit for Garza High School's Garza's Gardens program – great clothes from Upstairs, Betsey Johnson, Estilo, and others, a cool cause, and a fun afterparty downstairs. As we tried to exit afterward, a grunting, sneering goon at the front door says, "This is not an exit." Perplexed and pointing at the exit sign in front of us, we said, "But ..." "It'll take you 30 seconds to walk across the club and out that back door." "You're right," we said to ourselves. "It'll take us 30 seconds to walk out that door and never return." The clincher is Vicci's red carpet "exit" – a lush, crimson trail leading into the alley where the stench of urine and vomit envelopes you like a fine cashmere coat. So elegant you could die... Fortunately we were able to drown our sorrows at aGLIFF's fab opening party at City Hall. The festival has a terrific lineup again, and the outdoor plaza was packed with well-wishers listening to speeches by Mayor Will Wynn and the legendary Rev. Troy Perry, about whom the documentary Call Me Troy, which premiered last Friday, was made.
