Twinkies were first made in Chicago during the Great Depression. Until World War II, they were made with banana cream, but due to a banana shortage, the recipe was changed to its current flavor.

The Texas Tommy, which may be the first swing dance, was introduced at San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel in 1909. Some believe it was invented during the Civil War by an African-American named Tom from Palestine, Texas. Texas Tommy is also a type of food made with hot dogs, American cheese, and bacon.
