U.S. prisons grew by 1,000 inmates a week from 2004 to 2005. 1 in 136 U.S. residents is behind bars.

While Pope Benedict XVI visited Poland in May 2006, he didn't get to see any Polish feminine napkin commercials on TV because the Polish government banned their airing during the visit.

The U.S. government commissioned the Spanish translation of "The Star-Spangled Banner" in 1919.

On Nov. 22, 1955, Shemp Howard of The Three Stooges died of a heart attack. Unfortunately, the comedy team still owed three more films to Columbia Pictures. Using footage from previous films and a stand-in who looked like Shemp from behind, Columbia was able to create the remaining films.
