Supportive Housing Options Expanded

New housing options are now available for persons living with HIV/AIDS in Austin, Travis County, and the nine surrounding counties through Project Transitions' newest program of scattered site housing.

Although Project Transitions provides housing in Austin at two apartment complexes that they own, the need for different varieties of housing remained. Project Transitions responded by creating a transitional-housing program that places residents in their own apartments or homes at various locations throughout the city and area. A professional staff works with landlords to provide individual housing for residents, while assisting them in applying for permanent low-income housing. The agency subsidizes the rent and provides intensive support services before and after permanent housing is found.

To be eligible, applicants must have a diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, be able to qualify for low-income housing (have low or no income), and have good utility credit. For more information or to apply, contact Pamela Villars, director of client services, at 512/454-8646.
