Treatment Update Lunch at ASA on Feb. 26

What's the latest word on HIV treatment? HIV-positive people, service providers, and the interested public will have a chance to find out at a Treatment Update Seminar to be held at AIDS Services of Austin on Wednesday, Feb. 26, noon-2pm. Lunch will be provided at no charge.

Dr. Bob Wallace, associate director of medical affairs for Gilead Sciences, is a physician with 18 years experience in treating HIV/AIDS. He will have just returned from the 10th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Boston, where the latest treatment research was presented to 3,400 HIV specialists. He will share with the seminar audience what he found to be important, explaining background basics, as necessary, for understanding such topics as treatment choices, side effects, and drug resistance. Questions from the audience will be encouraged.

The update and lunch are being provided through the generosity of Gilead Sciences, the maker of Viread (tenofovir), the first once-a-day drug available for inclusion in the HIV treatment "cocktail."

Anyone who is interested in HIV treatment issues is encouraged to attend. For more information, call Sandy Bartlett, community education coordinator, at 406-6163 or Tim Byrne, nurse educator, at 406-6118.
