Air Supply

Also on tap for Earth Day is the Earth Day Celebration proper at Waterloo Park, Sat, Apr 17, 10am-7pm. Clean AiRewards is a sneaky incentive program to get you to buy eco-friendly junk -- oh, excuse us, we mean Green Products. The program is working with local eco-friendly merchants to offer eco-friendly discount coupons for those who participate by buying green. Students from UT and reps from the city of Austin's Solar Explorer Program will be on hand to answer eco-friendly questions and to take care of folks who wish to sign up. Anticipated eco-friendly sponsors offering discounts include Chapparral Ice, the Lady Bird Johnson National Wildflower Center, Eco-Mat, Eco-Wise, Vulcan Video, Hyde Park Bar & Grill, and Peter Piper Pizza. Eco-yum! 505-8890.

Get Your Mind in the Gutter

... or more specifically, up the creek. See, if you get to Earth Day early, Sat, Apr 17, like, say, 9am, you can help with the Waller Creek Clean-Up with Ecology Action and know that you did something more on Earth Day than just gather up a bunch of recyclable brochures that you probably won't even read anyway (but probably should if you are going to participate in the huge proliferation of papers ...). Actually, you know that we believe in efforts that are purely entertaining -- so don't think that we are being entirely flip here. We just know that some of you wish to put your eco-friendly actions where your eco-friendly mouths are; here's your chance, greenie.322-0000.

Rubbers Needed

Pamper participants pants off! Austin Area Volunteer Caregiver Groups are calling Massage Therapists to donate their time, talents, and nimble fingers to their Secretary's Day Luncheon, this Wed, Apr 21, 11:30am-1:30pm, at the Marriott at the Capitol, 701 E. 11th, and give some volunteers' generous muscles some well-deserved attention. Come rub up on some big-hearted social servants. We bet they wouldn't mind if you brought along biz cards, to boot. Just be sure to bring your official Texas therapist number, too. We bet they want only licensed masseurs and masseusses. 512/310-1060 in Round Rock.

Take My Girl ... Please ...

This Fri, Apr 16 and next Thu, Apr 22 are Take a Girl to Work Days. Locally, the YWCA has ideas on how to make this a good one -- one that'll have area girls thinking beyond the box for their futures. The Y will help match girls who need a mentor for the day. The official day of the national event (originally started by the Ms. Foundation) is the next Thursday, but the Y wants to cooperate with AISD, who is none too thrilled to have kids out on the school day. This Friday is an AISD staff development day, so kids are already out of school.326-1222.

Oooh! Campy!

Here are two leads for you parental-pulling-out-your-hair types, distraught at the thought of three whole months of summer vacation with the young-uns stuck in the house complaining about how boring and worthless their lives are. We don't know much about the actual programs so call for info and have a nice(r) summer!

• The Humane Society-SPCA is holding three different age-appropriate Summer Youth Programs to teach kids ages 8-17 how best to handle and respect pets and animals. Space is limited and early registration is highly recommended. 837-7985, x229.

• The City of Austin Eastside Story will conduct its annual Science/Math/Technology Summer Camp June 7-July 24 at Kealing Middle School. It's open to students in kindergarten through grade 7. Register at the DeWitty Center, 2200 Rosewood. 322-2350.
