About AIDS

You Are Still Needed! Help Us Meet the Challenge!

Yes, you are still needed! You are needed to volunteer your time to help people who are living with HIV/AIDS.

Every volunteer at AIDS Services of Austin makes a dramatic difference in the lives of the individuals we serve by giving the gift of self. The willingness to grow, be there, learn, and serve is the greatest gift of all for a person dealing with the physcial and emotional stresses of HIV/AIDS. People come to us from all walks of life.

Buddies/Helpers is one of our areas of greatest need for volunteers. People with HIV require various degrees of support. Many people only need someone to talk with occasionally, while others need someone who can devote an extended period of time. Many people, coming home from a hospital stay or facing disease progression, are less able to care for their home environment. Volunteers can assist with light housework, laundry, meals, errands, or shopping. Modest assistance often allows clients to remain in the comfort of their homes.

To get started, we provide new volunteers with a General Orientation to HIV/AIDS and to ASA. The next orientations are scheduled for Saturday, March 7th, 11:00am-1:30pm, and Tuesday, April 7th, 6:00-8:30pm. A further training seminar is held over a weekend for those desiring to be Buddies and Helpers. The next training will be March 21-22.

Please call 406-6167 for information or e-mail us at: [email protected]. We look forward to meeting you!
