In gold rush days, Charlotte Darkey "Charley" Parkhurst was known as one of the best stagecoach drivers in California. She once got an eye kicked by a horse, hence the nickname, one-eyed Charley or cockeyed Charley.
Some claim the hormone DHEA (dehydroepaidrosterone) burns calories, slows down aging, and fights cancer and other diseases.
The late Fred Feldman, helicopter reporter for WOR-AM Radio in New York, is credited with coining the term "rubbernecking delays" to explain why commuters might expect to be late for work.
"Born Free" author Joy Adamson was killed and partially eaten by a lion in Kenya in January 1980.
