Seeing the Dance

Austin is blessed with a bounty of talented and committed Middle Eastern dancers, and fortunately for them and their fans, they have a number of regular outlets through which they are able to share their artistry. Below is a selected list of upcoming Middle Eastern dance events. --B.P.

• Pat Taylor hosts a Middle Eastern dance show every Thursday, 8-8:30pm, at Ted's Greek Corner, 417 Congress. Next date: Aug 12. 371-7450.

• Melissa Amira's Caravan Carousel of Middle Eastern Dance is presented the first and third Saturdays of every month, 8-9pm, at the Carousel Lounge, 1110 E. 52nd. Next date: Aug 21. 441-7172.

• Lucila Dance Productions offers a performance the last Saturday of each month at Lucila Dance Studio, 1700 S. Lamar. Next date: Aug 28. 416-8800.

• Bahaia will host a Heart of Texas bellydance seminar August 13-15 at the Austin Chariot Resort, 7300 N. I-35. 445-6995

• Z-Helene Christopher and Rick Fink will perform at Cafe Mundi, 1704 E. Fifth, on Wednesday, August 18, 8-10pm. 236-8634.

• Zerehade presents Zerehade's Middle Eastern Dance Showcase with Caravan Serai at Casa de Luz, 1701 Toomey, on August 20, 9pm; and at Movements Gallery, 211 E. Sixth, on August 27, 8:45pm. 445-6534.

• Troupe Mirage performs twice a month in the Showroom of the Texas Union on the UT campus. Shows are Thursdays, 7:30-8:30pm. Next date: Sep 2. 471-5833 or 252-8437.

• Bobbye Dee's Kiss the Sands Productions is sponsoring its "End of the Century" La Danse Orientale Extravaganza November 19-21 at the Scottish Rite Theatre, 207 W. 18th. 331-6545.
