The Austin Chronicle is no longer accepting Editorial intern applications for the Summer 2025 semester. Applicants should hear from us by March 25.
Applications for the fall internship will open in July.
The Austin Chronicle offers unpaid internships in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Over the course of the program, interns expand their writing portfolios, work on database projects, receive direct feedback and guidance from editors, and earn first-hand experience of a print and digital news operation. Based on interns’ interests and skill sets, they contribute to one or more of the following sections: News; Music; Food; Culture, which includes Arts (comedy, visual arts, books, dance, theatre, classical music) and Screens (film, TV, tech, podcasts, gaming) coverage; and Qmmunity, the Chronicle’s hub for LGBTQIA news and happenings.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, or have completed one semester of college. Applicants do not need to be enrolled in college to participate in our internship program. We ask that for the duration of their internship with the Chronicle, Editorial interns not carry on simultaneous internships with other local media organizations. (Writing for school publications is fine.) Interns are required to attend one shift (3-4 hours) a week in office (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday); other intern responsibilities (writing and reporting) are done remotely. Hours are flexible, and school credit is available.
Applicants should send a cover letter, three writing samples (journalism or academic; no creative writing, please), and a résumé. Please include in your cover letter your background, interests, preferred Editorial sections, and why you believe you’re a good fit for The Austin Chronicle.
Application deadline: March 17.
