The Austin Chronicle seeks a full-time, experienced Music & Culture Editor to run coverage of the city’s vibrant creative communities, including music, visual arts, theatre, dance, comedy, books, film & TV, and gaming. This is an Austin-based position. Duties include crafting a weekly storylist for print and online, including long-form features, reviews, columns, and breaking news posts; assigning and editing stories; managing two staff writers and freelance reporters; engaging with the community, organizations, and public figures; and contributing meaningfully to Chronicle special projects such as the annual Music Poll/Austin Music Awards and Best of Austin.
The ideal candidate:
• is passionate about community journalism
• is adept as an editor, writer, and project manager
• has a thorough understanding of Austin’s creative communities
• is an enthusiastic collaborator
• moves easily between the macro (meeting daily and weekly deadlines, managing a long-range storylist) and the micro (detail-oriented, meticulous about getting the facts right)
• has minimum 2 years’ experience editing; 3-5 years experience as a reporter
This is a full-time, salaried position. Staffers generally work Mondays and Fridays remotely and in the office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
