Turntable Eatery Out, Cluck-n-Burger In

Airport Blvd. pizza joint shutters at end of July

Cluck-n-Burger owners Kassandra and Aaron Esserman

Turntable Eatery, the pizza joint on Airport Blvd., is closing at the end of July after just over a year in business. But the neighborhood won’t go hungry for long: The chicken and burger food truck Cluck-n-Burger will be opening their first brick-and-mortar restaurant in the same space this fall.

A July 24 announcement on Turntable’s official Facebook page did not give a reason for the restaurant’s closure, but it did note that “employees have been offered other positions at many of the other establishments in the company.” Turntable, located in the former House Pizzeria space, is owned by the team behind the popular dive bar Barfly’s as well as several other bars and eateries around Austin.

Run by husband-and-wife team Aaron and Kassandra Esserman, Cluck-n-Burger hit the streets of Austin in January 2018 and won Trucklandia Fest that October. The couple’s two trucks at the Violet Crown Social Club and the South Austin Beer Garden will continue to operate, and they hope to open at the 5111 Airport Blvd. location this September.
