Don't Call It a Kickback …

Lance 'Fever' Myers Kickstarts 'Boxer Story'

Febrile.
Febrile.

Lance Myers has been here for years. First as the hyper-animated frontman for skavalicious punks Gals Panic and then as one of Austin's most talented and respected animators. Now, he's looking to use Kickstarter to help fund his 20-minute epic, Boxer Story.

Lance "Fever" Myers' credits stretch all the way from Warner Brothers' Space Jam (!) to the best animated short you've probably never seen, 2001's The Astronomer, and beyond.

We first reported on Myers' long-in-development project back in March, 2010. Since then, the award-winning animator has made tons of progress on the actual animation and roughed out much of the film with animatics. The voice talent is well over -- and very well done -- and Graham Reynolds and the Golden Arm Trio, The Transgressors, and The Stay Gold Ponyboys have all been roped into the musical ring.

But animation, far more than live-action filmmaking, is an art form that takes time. Lots and lots of time. And finesse. And patience.

After two years of attempting to self-fund the project, Myers is understandably looking for a financial assist from Kickstarter. (And frankly, these days, who isn't?)

We've known Myers for ages and admired his work on Richard Linklater's A Scanner Darkly and his [adult swim]/Superdeluxe.com series The Ted Zone. We're fans of that Riddlin' Kids video, too. Suffice to say we figure the odds are pretty great that the finished Boxer Story will be a knockout. We'll keep you posted as the fight -- for awesome Austin animation -- continues.

More Myers madness here, here, and here.
